Ladik fragment,
Central Anatolia (Turkey), c. 117 x 115 cm, 17th/18th century, classic reference piece of an early prayer rug, on the grounds of the short three-gable prayer niche it seems probable that this piece is a so-called “tulip ladik” that must have originally had tulips with long stems in the missing bottom panel, remarkable in this carpet are, besides its bright colours, the rare patterns of its mihrab and the original border drawings, both ends reduced, remains of the original shirazi are still preserved on both long sides, low pile with bare areas and defects, all sides and holes backed with linen on the reverse. (MA)
